Seattle MarinersvsHouston Astros
SEA 7/HOU 10
Things to say
The Astros beat the Mariners 10-7 in 10 innings at Daikin Park.
01
opener
Man, that one went the distance. Astros walked it off in extras, ten to seven. Free baseball on a getaway day, brutal way for Seattle to lose.
02
key player
Heart of the Houston order did the damage late. Guy left the yard with the game on the line, and he's been carrying that lineup all week.
03
hot take
Seattle's manager went to the pen way too early. You had a starter who went six clean and got yanked, then the bullpen coughs up the lead. That's on the skipper.
04
deep cut
Nobody's talking about it, but the Mariners left the tying run stranded twice in the eighth and ninth. Their OBP with runners on has been ugly all month.
05
exit
Anyway, they run it back tomorrow, so we'll see if Seattle can steal the series before they leave town.
The recap
Astros and Mariners went the distance and Houston finally broke it open in the tenth, walking off with a 10-7 win at Daikin Park. This one was a slugfest all night, back-and-forth enough that both bullpens got shredded before it ever reached free baseball.
Houston kept clawing back, and once they got the leadoff man on in the tenth, the heart of the order did the rest and left the yard on Seattle. Getaway day disaster for the Mariners, who had chances to close it in nine and couldn't finish the job.
