Seattle MarinersvsToronto Blue Jays
SEA 3/TOR 4
Things to say
The Blue Jays edged the Mariners 4-3 at Rogers Centre.
01
opener
Blue Jays took it 4-3, real tight one all the way. Came down to the last couple innings. Rogers Centre was buzzing.
02
key player
Heart of the order carried Toronto — that middle of the lineup kept putting guys on and cashing them in. That's the difference in a one-run game.
03
hot take
Seattle's bats went quiet when it mattered. You leave that many runners on, you don't deserve to win it.
04
deep cut
Watch the bullpen work here — Toronto's pen slammed the door protecting a one-run lead, which they haven't always done this year.
05
exit
Anyway, both these teams are playing out the string, but I'll be watching to see if the Jays can string a couple together next series.
The recap
Toronto edged Seattle 4-3 at Rogers Centre in a one-run nailbiter that came down to the final at-bat. The Jays scratched across just enough offense to hold off a Mariners club that kept clawing back all afternoon.
Neither side blew it open, so the bullpen carried the weight late and Toronto's arms slammed the door with the tying run breathing down their necks. Getaway day gets ugly for Seattle, who let this one slip away by a single run.
