Seattle MarinersvsBoston Red Sox
SEA 8/BOS 9
Things to say
Boston beat Seattle 9-8 in 10 innings at Fenway.
01
opener
Man, that one had everything. Nine to eight, and the Sox didn't put it away until extras. Fenway was rocking by the end.
02
key player
The heart of the order carried Boston — they kept clawing back every time Seattle went ahead. Bats came alive right when they had to.
03
hot take
Honestly, Seattle's manager went to the pen too early. You give up that lead in the late innings, that's on the bullpen usage, not the arms.
04
deep cut
Both starters were long gone by the seventh, so this was a bullpen game the whole back half. Mariners are what, ten under .500 now? Games like this are why.
05
exit
Extra-innings walk-off in a getaway spot — brutal for Seattle. Anyway, we'll see if Boston keeps it rolling next series.
The recap
Fenway got its money's worth here — Boston and Seattle traded haymakers all night and needed extra innings to settle it, the Sox walking off 9-8 in the tenth. Eight runs a side means neither bullpen was locking anything down, so this one came down to who blinked last, and it was the Mariners who couldn't get the final out.
Boston's bats kept clawing back every time Seattle looked ready to run away with it. Getaway-day baseball at its messiest, and the home team sends the crowd home happy.
