Seattle MarinersvsNew York Yankees
SEA 1/NYY 4
Things to say
The Yankees beat the Mariners 4-1 at Yankee Stadium.
01
opener
Yanks took it 4-1. Pretty tidy win, not a lot of drama. Their pitching just kept Seattle off the board all night.
02
key player
Yankees' starter was the story — got into his stuff early and kept the M's hitters guessing. One run of support and that's all he needed.
03
hot take
Seattle's just not scoring right now. One run? The heart of that order has gone quiet, and it's showing in the standings.
04
deep cut
Mariners are under .500 now at 56-64 while the Yanks sit at 67-52 — that gap's the whole game right there. Seattle left the yard empty tonight.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if the Mariners can bounce back next one — hard to watch a lineup go that cold.
The recap
Yankees handled business at home, riding a starter who got into his stuff and gave them length while the Mariners could never string anything together. Seattle scratched across a single run and that was it — the heart of their order went quiet with runners on and the bats stayed cold all night.
New York's arm cruised, the bullpen slammed the door, and 4-1 was never really in doubt down the stretch. Getaway-day baseball, and the Yanks made sure the road trip started on the wrong foot for Seattle.
