Miami MarlinsvsWashington Nationals
MIA 2/WSH 9
Things to say
The Nationals beat the Marlins 9-2 at home.
01
opener
Nats jumped on them early and never looked back. Nine runs, and it honestly wasn't even that close. Miami's bullpen just had nothing.
02
key player
The heart of the order did all the damage for Washington. When they string it together like that, nine runs feels easy.
03
hot take
Marlins are supposed to be the team over .500 here, and they got run out of a road park by a sub-.500 club. That's the kind of loss that lingers.
04
deep cut
Nine runs at Nationals Park, which usually plays big. You don't put up a crooked number there without really squaring stuff up.
05
exit
Getaway day, they take it and run. Curious what Miami does next series to stop the bleeding.
The recap
Nationals put the clamps on Miami and cruised to a 9-2 win at home, never really letting the Marlins hang around. Washington's bats did the heavy lifting, piling on early and often so the arm on the mound never had to sweat a close one.
Miami's two runs were an afterthought by the time the heart of the order got cooking for the home side. Getaway day, comfy cushion, no bullpen drama, everybody heads out happy.
