Miami MarlinsvsPhiladelphia Phillies
MIA 5/PHI 6
Things to say
The Phillies beat the Marlins 6-5 at Citizens Bank Park.
01
opener
Phillies squeaked it out 6-5 at the Bank. One-run game the whole way. Miami hung around but Philly's bats did just enough.
02
key player
The heart of the order carried them. Big two-out knock in the middle innings, and that was the ballgame.
03
hot take
Honestly Miami outplayed them for six innings. Phillies got a little lucky the Marlins' pen couldn't close the door.
04
deep cut
Watch the Philly bullpen though. Skipper went to the pen early and it almost cost him a couple times.
05
exit
Anyway, they run it back tomorrow. Getaway day, so we'll see who's actually got their stuff.
The recap
Phillies edged the Marlins 6-5 in a back-and-forth one-run scrap at Citizens Bank Park, the kind of game where every at-bat in the late innings felt like it could tip it. Miami hung around all night and kept answering, but Philly's bats found just enough in the heart of the order to nudge ahead and stay there.
The bullpen had to sweat out the ninth with the tying run lurking, and this time the door stayed shut. A gutty, nerve-jangling win that pushes the Phils to 68-58 and drops the Fish back below the pack at 64-62.
