Mercyhurst LakersvsNew Mexico State Aggies
MERC 14/NMSU 51
Things to say
New Mexico State beat Mercyhurst 51-14 at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
01
opener
Aggies rolled, 51-14. It was close early, then NMSU just pulled away and never looked back. Mercyhurst couldn't move the ball in the second half.
02
key player
James Jones was the guy — 137 rushing on 19 carries plus a receiving score. Dude ran downhill all night.
03
hot take
One-score game in the second quarter, and NMSU still hangs 51. That's not a fluke, they flat out took over up front.
04
deep cut
Backup Adam Damante came in and threw a 23-yard TD in garbage time. And Terrione Graves torched them for an 83-yard bomb from Hedden.
05
exit
Anyway, let's see if the Aggies can keep it going against real competition next week.
The recap
Mercyhurst actually hung around early and even led 14-13 after Alex Gevaudan found Camden Lewis, but that was the last good thing that happened to them. New Mexico State ripped off 38 straight points to bury it, and the ground game did the heavy lifting — James Jones went for 137 yards and a 46-yard house call while TJ Washington punched in two short scores.
Trey Hedden was efficient through the air, capping it with an 83-yard bomb to Terrione Graves once the thing was already out of reach. Aggies smashmouth their way to a 51-14 laugher and get back to .500.
