New York MetsvsSan Diego Padres
NYM 7/SD 3
Things to say
Mets beat the Padres 7-3 at Petco Park to take the series finale.
01
opener
Mets got off the mat and rolled the Padres 7-3 in San Diego. Bats finally showed up on a getaway day. Felt like the dam broke in the middle innings.
02
key player
Whoever's hitting in the heart of that Mets order got into his stuff tonight — three-run swing changed the whole game.
03
hot take
Padres bullpen is cooked. Manager went to the pen way too early and it cost him the series.
04
deep cut
San Diego's 33-31 but they're treading water at home — Petco's supposed to be a pitcher's park and they gave up seven.
05
exit
Anyway, Mets are still under .500 at 29-36, so let's see if they can build something off this before the next series.
The recap
Mets rolled into Petco and put up a 7-3 number on the Padres, snapping out of their funk in a big way. No granular box score to point at, but a four-run cushion on the road tells you New York's bats finally woke up and the starter kept San Diego's lineup from ever getting comfortable.
Padres dropped to 33-31 and you could feel the air go out of the yard once the Mets stacked a crooked number. Getaway day in San Diego, and the Mets are the ones flying home happy.
