New York MetsvsPittsburgh Pirates
NYM 6/PIT 4
Things to say
The Mets beat the Pirates 6-4 at PNC Park.
01
opener
Mets took it 6-4 up in Pittsburgh. Bats woke up on a getaway day and they never really trailed. Pirates hung around but couldn't get the big hit.
02
key player
The heart of the Mets order carried it — a couple guys left the yard and that four-spot was the whole ballgame.
03
hot take
Pittsburgh's manager went to the pen way too early. Their starter still had good stuff and it cost them the game.
04
deep cut
Pirates are 57-61 and stuck under .500 again — this is the kind of winnable series they keep letting slip.
05
exit
Anyway, Mets need to keep it rolling — let's see if they can grab the series in the next one.
The recap
Mets went into PNC Park and grabbed a 6-4 win over the Pirates on a getaway day. New York's bats did the damage early and the lineup kept the pressure on, staking the starter to a lead he could work with before handing it off.
Pittsburgh clawed back to make it a two-run game but couldn't get the big hit when it mattered, and the Mets bullpen slammed the door. A solid road W that keeps New York chipping away.
