The recap
The Pirates took Pittsburgh's getaway day and turned it into a laugher, hanging a 9-spot on the Mets and cruising to a 9-0 shutout at PNC. Whoever got the ball for the Bucs was into his stuff all afternoon, keeping the heart of New York's order off the bases and letting the offense pile on late.
The Mets never threatened, going quiet at the plate and watching this one get out of hand early. Ugly day for New York, but for Pittsburgh it's exactly the kind of complete-game beatdown that makes a mediocre season feel a little better.
