New York MetsvsPittsburgh Pirates
NYM 11/PIT 1
Things to say
The Mets thumped the Pirates 11-1 at PNC Park.
01
opener
Mets rolled into Pittsburgh and put up eleven. It was over by the middle innings. PNC crowd headed for the exits early.
02
key player
The heart of the Mets order just teed off all day, and their starter went deep with the bats backing him. That's a getaway-day beatdown.
03
hot take
Eleven runs flatters them a little. The Pirates handed it over with sloppy defense as much as the Mets earned it.
04
deep cut
Pirates skipper went to the bullpen way too early and it just poured gas on the fire. Once you're down five you let the starter eat innings.
05
exit
Anyway, blowouts happen in August. Curious if the Mets can carry that lineup into the next series.
The recap
The Mets went to Pittsburgh on a getaway day and turned it into batting practice, hanging 11 on the Pirates for an 11-1 laugher at PNC. New York's bats worked the count all afternoon and kept the line moving, blowing it open once they got through the heart of the order and never looking back.
Pittsburgh's pen got shredded after the starter couldn't get deep, and by the middle innings this one was academic. When you're stacking crooked numbers like that, the other guy's got no answers — the Mets just left the yard on 'em all day.
