New York MetsvsChicago White Sox
NYM 1/CHW 2
Things to say
The White Sox edged the Mets 2-1 at Rate Field.
01
opener
Man, that was a grind. Classic 2-1 pitchers' duel, nobody could string anything together. Sox just found a way at home.
02
key player
Whoever got the ball for Chicago was dealing early. Really got into his stuff, kept the Mets' heart of the order off balance all night.
03
hot take
Honestly the Mets' bats are the problem, not the pitching. One run? On a getaway day? That offense is asleep.
04
deep cut
Sox bullpen actually held it down late, which is not a sentence I expected to say this year. Two runs was all they needed.
05
exit
Anyway, low-scoring one. Curious if the Mets can wake up the lineup for the next series.
The recap
Classic pitchers' duel on the South Side, with the White Sox squeaking out a 2-1 win over the Mets in a game that never felt safe. Runs were at a premium all afternoon, both bullpens locked it down, and every at-bat in the late innings felt like the whole thing hung on it.
The Sox scratched across just enough and made it stand up, snapping New York's momentum and nudging themselves back over .500 at 68-62. The Mets keep sliding, wasting a strong pitching effort because the bats went quiet when it mattered.
