Minnesota United FCvsPortland Timbers
MIN 4/POR 5
Things to say
Portland edged Minnesota 5-4 at Providence Park.
01
opener
Portland won it 5-4, if you can believe that. Nine goals and forget a clean sheet, nobody wanted to defend. That's the wildest game I've seen all season.
02
key player
Vincent Janssen was all over it up top, team-high four shots and constant pressure. When he's dialed in Portland is a problem.
03
hot take
Both keepers should be embarrassed. You give up four or five at home, that's not bad luck, that's just no defending.
04
deep cut
Watch Kamal Miller in the back — nine defensive interventions and he still couldn't plug the leaks. Guy was on an island all night.
05
exit
Minnesota let this one slip, and they've got no time to sulk before the next one. Should be a fun bounce-back spot.
The recap
Portland and Minnesota just played a 5-4 track meet at Providence Park, and if you like defense, look away. Nine goals combined and nobody was getting a clean sheet on this night, both keepers stuck picking the ball out of the net all game.
The Timbers edged it 5-4, riding Vincent Janssen leading the attack up top and Kamal Miller doing what he could to keep the leaks plugged in back. Minnesota matched them punch for punch and still walked away with nothing to show for it.
