Washington NationalsvsSan Francisco Giants
WSH 10/SF 11
Things to say
San Francisco beat Washington 11-10 at Oracle Park.
01
opener
Giants-Nats was a slugfest, 11-10 at Oracle. Two bullpens just gave it away. Nobody on either side wanted to record an out.
02
key player
Whoever was hitting in the heart of the order for SF earned his paycheck — you don't put up eleven without somebody leaving the yard.
03
hot take
Both managers went to the pen way too early. You let your starter wear it in a game like that.
04
deep cut
Nats are 35-34 and just dropped one to a 28-41 team on the road. That's the kind of loss that shows up in October.
05
exit
Anyway — getaway day tomorrow, we'll see if anybody's bullpen has an arm left.
The recap
Wild one out at Oracle — Giants outlasted the Nats 11-10 in a slugfest neither bullpen wanted any part of. Both starters got knocked around early, the manager went to the pen too early on both sides, and from there it was just haymakers, with the heart of the order leaving the yard more than once.
San Francisco clawed back late after Washington kept tacking on, and the Giants finally walked it off to steal one they had no business winning given how the pitching looked. Getaway day in the Bay and the Nats are gonna be kicking themselves on the flight out.
