Washington NationalsvsCleveland Guardians
WSH 10/CLE 2
Things to say
Washington beat Cleveland 10-2 at Progressive Field.
01
opener
Nats just put a ten-spot on Cleveland. Ten-two, never really close after the middle innings. Guardians' pitching had no answers.
02
key player
Whoever was in the heart of the Washington order was locked in — that lineup did not miss a mistake all night.
03
hot take
Cleveland's bullpen is cooked. You can't keep handing the ball to the same three arms and expect them to hold a one-run game in May.
04
deep cut
Nats are now 28-27, first time over .500 in a while. Quietly sneaking up on people.
05
exit
Anyway, Guardians better figure it out before the weekend — division's too tight to be giving away games like that.
The recap
Nats absolutely steamrolled Cleveland 10-2 at Progressive — this one was over by the middle innings. Washington's bats got into the Guardians' starter early, tagged him hard, and once the manager went to the pen the floodgates opened.
Cleveland never threatened, couldn't string anything together against a Nats staff that pounded the zone all night. Ugly getaway-day loss for the Guards; the Nationals leave town looking like the team that's been hiding in the standings.
