Washington NationalsvsCleveland Guardians
WSH 2/CLE 3
Things to say
The Cleveland Guardians beat the Washington Nationals 3-2 at Progressive Field.
01
opener
Caught the end of that one. Guardians edged the Nats 3-2 at home. One of those grind-it-out one-run games where every late at-bat felt huge.
02
key player
In a 3-2 game it always comes down to one guy — whoever got the big hit or slammed the door in the ninth earned it. (Drop the name + line once you've seen the box.)
03
hot take
Two runs and you lose — Washington's offense went quiet when it mattered. You don't win on the road scoring two.
04
deep cut
One-run games are basically a bullpen test, and Cleveland's pen has quietly been the difference all year. That's why they're a few games over .500.
05
exit
Anyway, both these clubs are right in the mix — should be a fun rest of the series. We'll see if Washington bounces back tomorrow.
The recap
Cleveland squeaked one out at home, edging Washington 3-2 in a tight one that came down to the final at-bats. Neither lineup did much damage against the starting pitching, so this turned into a grind where every baserunner mattered.
The Guardians' bullpen slammed the door late to protect the one-run lead and push them to 33-25. The Nats hung around all afternoon but just couldn't cash in when it counted, dropping them under .500 at 29-28.
