Washington NationalsvsNew York Mets
WSH 1/NYM 4
Things to say
The Mets beat the Nationals 4-1 at Citi Field on Thursday.
01
opener
Mets took care of business at home, 4-1. Nothing flashy, just clean baseball. Washington never really got the heart of the order going.
02
key player
Mets starter was the story for me. Went deep into the game, kept the WHIP low, and stranded runners every time it got tense. Total command.
03
hot take
Honestly the Nats are playing over their heads all year. Sixty-four wins and they still can't scratch more than one run on a getaway day? That's not a contender.
04
deep cut
Watch the bullpen usage. The pen came in and shut the door instead of the manager riding the starter too long. That's the difference in a 4-1 game.
05
exit
Anyway, Mets need to keep stacking these. Let's see if the bats show up for the next one.
The recap
Mets took care of business at Citi and beat the Nats 4-1, a tidy little getaway win before the road trip. The pitching set the tone all night, keeping Washington's bats quiet and stranding whatever traffic they managed to scratch together.
New York pushed across just enough, cashing in their chances while the bullpen slammed the door instead of letting it get sweaty late. Nothing flashy, just a clean four runs and a starter who got into his stuff early.
