Washington NationalsvsColorado Rockies
WSH 7/COL 8
Things to say
The Rockies edged the Nationals 8-7 at Coors Field.
01
opener
Rockies took it 8-7. Typical Coors Field, the ball was flying all night. Nats hung around but couldn't get the last stop.
02
key player
Colorado's bats did the damage in that thin air. Somebody in the heart of that order left the yard when it counted.
03
hot take
Honestly? You can't judge any pitcher's line at Coors. Different sport at altitude.
04
deep cut
One-run game with that much offense usually means somebody's pen coughed it up late.
05
exit
Rockies sitting way under .500 though. Nats are the ones actually in it. Curious what they do next series.
The recap
Classic Coors Field slugfest, and the Rockies survived it 8-7. Washington came in playing .500 ball and looked like they'd steal one on the road, but Colorado kept answering at the plate in the thin mountain air where nobody's bullpen is safe.
It came down to the final at-bat with the Nats leaving the tying run out there, and the home crowd walked out happy for once. Rough getaway day for Washington, who let a winnable one slip away in a park that'll do that to you.
