Newcastle UnitedvsTottenham Hotspur
NEW 2/TOT 0
Things to say
Newcastle beat Tottenham 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
01
opener
Newcastle went into Tottenham's place and grabbed a 2-0 win. Spurs never really got going. Clean sheet on the road, that's a statement.
02
key player
Lukas Hornicek was the story in the Newcastle goal. Four saves, kept the clean sheet, looked calm all afternoon. Spurs couldn't beat him.
03
hot take
Tottenham are 0-0-2 to start. Two games, still no win. That's not a hot start, that's a problem.
04
deep cut
Lewis Hall put in 17 defensive interventions from the back. That's the quiet stuff nobody talks about, but that's how you shut a team out.
05
exit
Newcastle look sharp early. Curious to see if they can keep it going next week.
The recap
Newcastle went into Tottenham's place and walked out with a 2-0 win, and honestly it wasn't as close as the scoreline suggests they left it. Tottenham pushed and had the better of the run of play, but they couldn't beat keeper Lukas Hornicek, who came up with four saves to keep a clean sheet.
Newcastle just took their chances and clamped down defensively, with Lewis Hall breaking up everything in sight. Two road points banked, and Spurs are still looking for their first win.
