Norfolk State SpartansvsOld Dominion Monarchs
NORF 10/ODU 31
Things to say
Old Dominion beat Norfolk State 31-10 at home to open the season 1-0.
01
opener
ODU handled Norfolk State 31-10, never really in doubt. They jumped out 17-0 and the Spartans couldn't move the ball early. Home team just controlled the line of scrimmage.
02
key player
Quinn Henicle did everything for ODU — 137 yards and two scores through the air, plus 68 on the ground and two more rushing TDs. Four total touchdowns from your QB, that'll win you games.
03
hot take
Honestly Norfolk State's defense kept it closer than the offense deserved. Bailey threw for 94 yards all game — you're not beating anybody scoring 10.
04
deep cut
TJ Johnson quietly caught both of Henicle's touchdown passes, and Jalyn Daniels ran for 84 on the other side but nobody helped him. When one back is your whole offense, it's a long night.
05
exit
Solid opener for the Monarchs — we'll see if it holds up once the schedule gets real.
The recap
Old Dominion never let Norfolk State breathe, jumping out 17-0 and cruising to a 31-10 win at S.B. Ballard.
Quinn Henicle was the whole show — four total touchdowns, two through the air and two on the ground, plus the 137 passing yards and 68 on the ground to boot. Norfolk State couldn't move the ball when it counted, and by the time Deljay Bailey punched one in late it was already garbage time.
Jalyn Daniels' 84 rushing yards was about the only bright spot for the Spartans, who got run out of the building by a Monarchs team that looked the part in the opener.
