Oklahoma State CowboysvsTulsa Golden Hurricane
OKST 10/TLSA 24
Things to say
Tulsa beat Oklahoma State 24-10 at home to open the season.
01
opener
Tulsa took it to Oklahoma State, 24-10. The Cowboys just couldn't move the ball when it mattered. Ugly way to start the year for them.
02
key player
Damari Alston was the guy — 15 carries, 73 yards and two touchdowns, plus one on the ground from 29 out to ice it. Tulsa fed him and he delivered.
03
hot take
Two picks from Mestemaker and 49 attempts? That's not a game plan, that's panic. Oklahoma State abandoned the run way too early.
04
deep cut
Oran Singleton Jr. had 99 yards on just four catches. One 21-yard grab flipped the whole thing early in the second half.
05
exit
Long season ahead for OKST. We'll see if they can figure out the quarterback spot before conference play.
The recap
Tulsa flat-out bullied Oklahoma State in this one, running the Cowboys off their own field for a 24-10 win. Damari Alston was the hammer, punching in two touchdowns including a 29-yard dagger to ice it in the fourth.
Drew Mestemaker couldn't get anything going for OK State, chucking two picks and living in third-and-long all night while Baylor Hayes played clean and hit Oran Singleton for a big score. Cowboys fans, this was smashmouth ball and Tulsa owned the line of scrimmage from start to finish.
