Baltimore OriolesvsToronto Blue Jays
BAL 4/TOR 6
Things to say
Toronto beat Baltimore 6-4 at Rogers Centre.
01
Jays took it 6-4. Closer than the box score makes it look. Baltimore hung around but never really threatened late.
02
key player
Whoever was hitting in the heart of the order for Toronto carried them — the Orioles bullpen could not find the zone when it mattered.
03
hot take
Baltimore's manager went to the pen way too early. You leave your starter in there, this is a different game.
04
deep cut
Toronto's now won the series even sitting under .500, and the Orioles are sliding the wrong way against divisional teams at home.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if the Jays can keep it rolling — they're right there in the wild card hunt if they stack a few.
The recap
Blue Jays took this one 6-4 at the Rogers Centre, finally getting over .500 on a getaway-day matinee against the Orioles. Without a box score in front of me the details are thin, but Toronto's bats clearly did enough damage to keep Baltimore chasing all afternoon.
The O's stay stuck a game under Toronto in the standings, and you can bet their manager is second-guessing when he went to the pen. Two divisional clubs scrapping in the muddy middle of the AL East — nothing flashy, but a win's a win.
