Baltimore OriolesvsSt. Louis Cardinals
BAL 8/STL 7
Things to say
The Orioles edged the Cardinals 8-7 at Busch Stadium.
01
opener
Man, that one was a slugfest. Orioles took it 8-7 in St. Louis. Back and forth all night, came down to the last out.
02
key player
The heart of the O's order carried them. Somebody in that lineup left the yard and drove in a bunch of those eight runs.
03
hot take
Honestly the Cards manager went to the pen way too early. That's how you cough up a one-run game.
04
deep cut
Both these teams are hovering right under .500, so on paper it's nothing, but that bullpen meltdown is the real story.
05
exit
Anyway, it's a getaway day tomorrow, we'll see if St. Louis can bounce back and split the series.
The recap
Orioles grabbed a getaway-day nailbiter in St. Louis, edging the Cardinals 8-7 to split the difference between two teams scrapping around .500.
Eight runs on the road means the bats stayed hot all afternoon, and they needed every one of them because St. Louis kept clawing back.
A one-run final at Busch is the kind of game where the bullpen either slams the door or hands it away, and this time Baltimore's pen held on. Both clubs sit at 65-68 and 66-68, so this was two ballclubs fighting to stay relevant, and the Birds walked out with the edge.
