Baltimore OriolesvsSt. Louis Cardinals
BAL 5/STL 7
Things to say
The Cardinals beat the Orioles 7-5 at Busch Stadium.
01
opener
Cards took it 7-5, kept it close the whole way. St. Louis just did enough late. Baltimore hung around but couldn't get the big hit when they needed it.
02
key player
The heart of the order carried it for St. Louis. Somebody in the middle left the yard and drove in a couple. That's your ballgame right there.
03
hot take
Orioles bullpen let that one slip. Manager went to the pen too early and it bit him. You've got to let your starter finish that inning.
04
deep cut
Baltimore's offense went quiet with runners on. They stranded a bunch. OBP was fine, they just couldn't string it together.
05
exit
Getaway day, so they're back at it in the next series. We'll see if the bats wake up on the road.
The recap
Cardinals took this one 7-5 at Busch, grinding out a getaway-day win over the Orioles. Baltimore hung around and made it a two-run game late, but the heart of the St.
Louis order kept putting up crooked numbers and the bullpen didn't let it slip. The O's had chances but couldn't cash in with runners on, and that was the ballgame.
Solid, unglamorous home win to close out the series.
