San Diego PadresvsAtlanta Braves
SD 8/ATL 3
Things to say
The Padres beat the Braves 8-3 on the road at Truist Park.
01
opener
Padres went into Atlanta and just took it, 8-3. Their bats were locked in from the jump. Braves never really got into it.
02
key player
The heart of San Diego's order carried it — Machado and the guys behind him kept turning the lineup over. Once they got a couple runners on, it snowballed.
03
hot take
Atlanta's starter looked cooked by the fifth and the manager still left him out there. You go to the pen too late and this is what you get.
04
deep cut
What stood out to me was San Diego stacking runs in the middle innings, not just one big swing. That's the stuff that travels on the road.
05
exit
Anyway, Padres finally clawing back to .500 — see if they can keep it rolling in the next one.
The recap
The Padres came into Truist Park and put a beating on Atlanta, 8-3, in a getaway day that was never really close. San Diego stacked runs early and let the arms coast, keeping the Braves' bats quiet until the number stopped mattering.
Atlanta scratched out three but never got the heart of the order rolling when it counted. San Diego heads home at .500 feeling a whole lot better than the scoreboard says about the Braves.
