San Diego PadresvsArizona Diamondbacks
SD 4/ARI 10
Things to say
The Diamondbacks beat the Padres 10-4 at Chase Field.
01
opener
Yeah, D-backs ran away with it, 10-4. Padres hung around early but Arizona just kept putting up crooked numbers. Once it opened up it wasn't close.
02
key player
The heart of Arizona's order was locked in — double-digit runs doesn't happen unless the three and four hitters are barreling everything.
03
hot take
San Diego's staff has no answers on the road. That WHIP is going to bite them come September.
04
deep cut
Chase Field with the roof plays like a launching pad in August — a couple of those balls leave the yard in a normal park too, but that turf lets everything through.
05
exit
Anyway, getaway day tomorrow — we'll see if the Padres bullpen can hold serve before they get out of the desert.
The recap
Arizona jumped on San Diego early and never looked back, cruising to a 10-4 win at Chase Field. The bats did all the damage here, piling up double-digit runs and putting this one out of reach before the Padres could even get comfortable.
San Diego's staff never got into their stuff and the bullpen couldn't stop the bleeding once things snowballed. Getaway day in the desert, and the Diamondbacks sent everybody home happy.
