San Diego PadresvsPhiladelphia Phillies
SD 4/PHI 6
Things to say
Phillies beat the Padres 6-4 at Citizens Bank Park.
01
opener
Phils took care of business, 6-4 over San Diego. Felt like a Citizens Bank Park kind of night — they wore the Padres down in the middle innings and never really gave the lead back.
02
key player
Heart of the order did the damage. That lineup just keeps grinding at-bats against anyone the Padres throw out there.
03
hot take
San Diego's bullpen is gonna cost them a playoff spot if they don't figure it out. Manager went to the pen way too early again.
04
deep cut
Padres are now 32-29 and still chasing .500 on the road. Their OBP at the top of the order has quietly cratered over the last two weeks.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if they can stack one tomorrow — getaway day usually gets weird.
The recap
Phillies took down the Padres 6-4 at Citizens Bank Park to wrap up the series, and it had that classic getaway day energy with both squads scrapping for every run. San Diego hung around all afternoon but Philly's heart of the order finally got into the Padres bullpen late, with a couple of balls leaving the yard at the right time.
The Phillies' pen slammed the door from there, riding a clean back end to lock it up. Philly climbs to 33-29 and San Diego drops a winnable one to fall a game under at 32-29.
