San Diego PadresvsTampa Bay Rays
SD 4/TB 9
Things to say
The Tampa Bay Rays beat the San Diego Padres 9-4 at Tropicana Field.
01
opener
Rays took it 9-4 at the Trop. They kept putting up crooked numbers and San Diego never really answered. Nine runs at home, that's a laugher by the sixth.
02
key player
The heart of the Tampa order just carried them — barreled everything, left the yard, and the middle of that lineup was the whole ballgame.
03
hot take
San Diego's pitching plan was cooked early. You give up nine and you weren't gonna win that one no matter what the bats did.
04
deep cut
Watch the Padres bullpen usage — manager went to the pen too early and it snowballed. Once the starter was out, the whole thing unraveled.
05
exit
Anyway, Rays are rolling at 80-54 — curious if San Diego bounces back tomorrow or lets this one linger.
The recap
Tampa Bay flexed at home and made it look easy, hanging nine on San Diego to take this one 9-4. The bats never let the Padres settle in, and once the Rays got their arms working they cruised through the heart of the order all night.
San Diego's pen sprung a leak and the game got out of reach in a hurry. At 80-54, the Rays keep rolling while the Padres head home stinging.
