Philadelphia PhilliesvsSt. Louis Cardinals
PHI 1/STL 7
Things to say
The Cardinals beat the Phillies 7-1 at Busch Stadium.
01
opener
Cards handled the Phillies 7-1 at home. Never really close after the early innings. St. Louis just kept adding on.
02
key player
Their starter was the whole story. Went deep into the game, kept the heart of the order off balance, barely gave up anything. That's a guy pitching to his contract.
03
hot take
I don't care that Philly's got the better record, they looked flat. One run on the road on a getaway day? That's a team coasting.
04
deep cut
What got me was the bottom of the Cardinals order doing damage. When your seven-eight-nine guys are putting up runs, that's how you win 7-1.
05
exit
Anyway, Phillies better regroup fast, they've still got a division to worry about. Curious what they do next series.
The recap
Cardinals took this one to the woodshed, 7-1 over the Phillies on a getaway day at Busch. St.
Louis put up a crooked number and the bats stayed hot through the heart of the order while their starter cruised deep and kept Philly's lineup to a single run. Phillies never got anything going against him and the bullpen barely had to break a sweat.
Ho-hum series win for a Cardinals club scratching its way back to .500.
