Pittsburgh PiratesvsSt. Louis Cardinals
PIT 6/STL 2
Things to say
The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-2 at Busch Stadium.
01
opener
Pirates took it 6-2 over in St. Louis. Pittsburgh's bats showed up early and never really let the Cardinals back in. Comfortable win on a getaway day.
02
key player
Pittsburgh's lineup did the damage top to bottom — six runs is a good day when the heart of the order gets rolling like that.
03
hot take
Honestly the Cardinals look cooked. You're under .500 in late August and losing series to teams you should handle? That's not a contender, that's a spoiler.
04
deep cut
Two runs for St. Louis at home is the tell — bullpen or not, you're not winning if the offense goes quiet in your own yard.
05
exit
Anyway, both these clubs are playing out the string. I'll care again in October — if either of 'em even sniffs it.
The recap
The Pirates went into Busch and took care of business, riding a 6-2 win over the Cardinals on a getaway afternoon. Pittsburgh's arms kept St.
Louis' heart of the order quiet all day, holding them to just two runs and never letting the home crowd get into it. The Cardinals couldn't string anything together and drop another one as they slide under .500.
Nothing flashy here, just the Bucs grinding out a clean road win and stealing a game they needed.
