Tampa Bay RaysvsBaltimore Orioles
TB 3/BAL 5
Things to say
The Orioles beat the Rays 5-3 at Camden Yards.
01
opener
Baltimore took it 5-3 at Camden. Rays came in red hot at 76-52 and the O's just didn't care. Home crowd got their money's worth.
02
key player
Whoever was in the heart of that Orioles order left the yard when it mattered. Two big swings basically decided it.
03
hot take
Tampa's the better team on paper and it doesn't mean a thing right now. That bullpen is running on fumes.
04
deep cut
Getaway day at Camden and the O's starter got into his stuff, kept the Rays' bats quiet into the late innings. That's the whole ballgame.
05
exit
Anyway, Rays are still cruising to October. This one's just a speed bump. Let's see if the O's can play spoiler the rest of the way.
The recap
The Orioles played spoiler on Friday night at Camden Yards, knocking off the AL-best Rays 5-3 in a game Tampa Bay was supposed to run away with. Baltimore's a sub-.500 club, but somebody in the heart of the order left the yard when it mattered and the bullpen slammed the door to close out the two-run cushion.
The Rays came in at 76-52 and just couldn't get to Baltimore's arms when they had traffic on. Nice little upset to kick off the weekend series.
