Tampa Bay RaysvsDetroit Tigers
TB 4/DET 1
Things to say
The Rays beat the Tigers 4-1 at Comerica Park on Sunday.
01
opener
Rays took it 4-1 in Detroit. Low-scoring, tight game the whole way. Tampa's pitching just smothered the Tigers.
02
key player
Whoever they ran out on the mound was filthy — got into his stuff early and the Tigers never touched him. That's a WHIP you frame on the wall.
03
hot take
One run at home? That lineup's asleep. Detroit's heart of the order has gone quiet at the worst time.
04
deep cut
Getaway day and the Rays still bring it — 78-53 doesn't happen by accident. That bullpen barely broke a sweat closing it out.
05
exit
Tigers are fading fast at 61-70. Anyway, curious if they can string anything together in the next series.
The recap
Tampa Bay went into Comerica and took care of business, 4-1, in a game that had pitcher's-duel bones written all over it. The Rays' arms bottled up Detroit's lineup to a single run, and once they scratched across a few they never looked back.
The Tigers just couldn't string anything together against a bullpen that slammed the door late. At 78-53, the Rays keep humming while Detroit slides further under .500.
