Tampa Bay RaysvsDetroit Tigers
TB 3/DET 0
Things to say
The Rays shut out the Tigers 3-0 at Comerica Park.
01
opener
Rays took it 3-0 on a getaway day in Detroit. Just a clean, quiet shutout. Tigers never got anything going against Tampa's arms.
02
key player
The Rays' starter was the whole story. Got into his stuff early, cruised into the seventh, barely put anybody on. That WHIP is doing real work right now.
03
hot take
Three runs shouldn't be enough to win a ballgame, but Detroit's bats have been ice cold. Tigers are 62-71 for a reason.
04
deep cut
Rays are 79-54 now and they did it the boring way. No walk-off, no fireworks, just the bullpen slamming the door and the heart of the order not needing to do much.
05
exit
Tampa's rolling. I'll be watching who they draw next, that lineup's a problem down the stretch.
The recap
Rays walked into Comerica on a getaway day and slammed the door, blanking Detroit 3-0. This one was all about the arms — Tampa's staff kept the Tigers off balance all afternoon, scattering nothing that mattered and never letting the heart of the order do damage.
Three runs was plenty when the bullpen's throwing zeros, and the Rays keep humming along at 79-54 while Detroit's bats went quiet on a day they needed something, anything, to fall in.
