Boston Red SoxvsToronto Blue Jays
BOS 3/TOR 5
Things to say
The Blue Jays beat the Red Sox 5-3 at Rogers Centre.
01
opener
Jays took it 5-3 up in Toronto. Boston hung around but never got over the hump. One of those where the home crowd got loud late and Toronto just closed the door.
02
key player
Toronto's heart of the order did the damage — a couple of those runs came right through the middle of that lineup. Boston had no answer for the big bats.
03
hot take
Boston's still the better team on paper — they're way over .500 and Toronto's under it. This one's on Boston losing a game they should've had.
04
deep cut
Watch the records: Toronto's 58-63, Boston's 64-55. A two-run game on a getaway-day type spot — those are the ones that quietly wreck a wild-card push.
05
exit
Anyway, real question is whether Boston bounces back next one — they can't keep giving these away in the division chase.
The recap
Toronto took care of business at Rogers Centre, knocking off Boston 5-3 to snap the Red Sox out of their groove and climb a little closer in the standings. The Jays did their damage against the heart of the Boston order and rode a steady bullpen to lock it down late.
Boston, sitting pretty at 64-55, couldn't string enough together after falling behind and never got the big swing they needed. Getaway-day loss for the Sox, and Toronto walks away feeling like the better team on the night.
