Boston Red SoxvsToronto Blue Jays
BOS 4/TOR 6
Things to say
Toronto beat Boston 6-4 at Rogers Centre on Wednesday.
01
opener
Jays took it 6-4 up in Toronto. Boston had the better record walking in and still couldn't close it. Classic getaway-day letdown for the Sox.
02
key player
Somebody in the heart of that Toronto order left the yard when it mattered. Two extra runs on the board that Boston never answered.
03
hot take
Boston's a 64-56 club losing to a team under .500. That's the bullpen, not the bats. Somebody went to the pen too early.
04
deep cut
Watch the middle innings on that one. That's where the game flipped, not the ninth. The starter didn't go seven and it showed.
05
exit
Anyway, Boston's gotta bounce back or this slide gets real. I'll catch the next one.
The recap
Toronto grabbed a 6-4 win over Boston at the Rogers Centre, flipping what looked like a Red Sox afternoon into a Blue Jays party. Boston's bats got their four early, but the heart of the Toronto order chipped away and eventually got over the top for the two-run cushion.
This one felt like it turned when the bullpen slammed the door and Boston's rally never materialized late. Getaway-day energy, and the Jays sent everybody home happy.
