Boston Red SoxvsMiami Marlins
BOS 7/MIA 3
Things to say
The Red Sox beat the Marlins 7-3 in 11 innings at loanDepot park.
01
opener
Red Sox took it in extras down in Miami, 7-3. Thing was knotted up late and then Boston just blew it open in the eleventh. Marlins bullpen had nothing left in the tank.
02
key player
The heart of Boston's order finally woke up in extra innings. Two on, they left the yard, and that was the ballgame right there.
03
hot take
Miami's manager went to the pen way too early. You've got a starter cruising and you yank him? Cost them the whole game.
04
deep cut
Marlins couldn't cash a single runner from second all night. You strand that many guys, extra innings is where you get punished.
05
exit
Anyway, Boston's rolling at 73-59. Curious if they can keep it going the rest of this road trip.
The recap
This one went the distance and then some, tied up until the Red Sox blew it open in the eleventh to steal it 7-3. Boston's bats were dead quiet for nine innings before finally getting into the Marlins' pen and hanging a four-spot in extras to break the tie.
Miami's arms held tough all night but ran out of gas once the game got past regulation. Getaway day in loanDepot park, and the Sox packed the win in their carry-on.
