Cincinnati RedsvsChicago Cubs
CIN 10/CHC 8
Things to say
The Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago Cubs 10-8 at Wrigley Field.
01
opener
Reds took it 10-8 at Wrigley. Total slugfest, the wind was clearly blowing out. Nobody's pitching survived that one.
02
key player
The heart of Cincy's order just would not stop. They put up double digits on the road and left the yard more than once.
03
hot take
Cubs manager went to the pen way too early and it bit him. You're at home with a good lineup, you let your starter work.
04
deep cut
Cincy's a sub-.500 club and they just walked into Wrigley and dropped eight-plus. That says more about the Cubs' bullpen than anything.
05
exit
Cubs are still in good shape at 76-59 though. Long season, we'll see if this one lit a fire under them.
The recap
The Reds went into Wrigley on a getaway day and turned it into a slugfest, walking out with a 10-8 win that neither bullpen wanted to own. Both starters got knocked around early and the pitching staffs just kept handing runs back and forth, but Cincinnati's bats stayed hot through the heart of the order when it mattered.
The Cubs kept clawing back, yet every time they pulled close the Reds answered, and Chicago's relievers couldn't slam the door late. Ten runs on the road tells you all you need to know: this one was a track meet, and the Reds simply had the fresher legs down the stretch.
