Cincinnati RedsvsWashington Nationals
CIN 2/WSH 8
Things to say
The Nationals beat the Reds 8-2 at Nationals Park.
01
opener
Nats took it 8-2 at home. Never really close. They put a crooked number up early and the Reds spent the rest of the night chasing.
02
key player
The heart of the order carried it. Once the middle of that lineup got going, Washington just kept passing the baton and adding on.
03
hot take
Two sub-.500 teams, sure, but the Nats swung like a club that's found something. That offense doesn't look like a 58-win team right now.
04
deep cut
Eight runs and it never felt tight, which tells you the pen barely got tested. That's the quiet win on a getaway day.
05
exit
Anyway, Cincy's gotta shake it off quick before the next one. Let's see if the Nats can actually string a series together.
The recap
Washington took this one to the woodshed, hanging eight on the Reds for a comfortable 8-2 win at Nationals Park. The bats did the heavy lifting early and never let Cincinnati climb back in, turning a getaway-day matinee into a laugher by the middle innings.
Cincinnati's arms just didn't have it, and once the heart of the order got rolling for the Nats there was no plugging the leak. Two runs isn't touching an eight-spot, and the Reds head out of town having gotten knocked around.
