Cincinnati RedsvsWashington Nationals
CIN 1/WSH 7
Things to say
Washington beat Cincinnati 7-1 at Nationals Park on a getaway day.
01
opener
Nats took care of business, 7-1. Never really close after the middle innings. Cincy just couldn't string anything together.
02
key player
Washington's starter was the story — got into his stuff early, went deep and kept the Reds' heart of the order quiet all afternoon.
03
hot take
One run? Cincinnati's bats have gone cold at the worst time. That lineup should not be getting shut down like that.
04
deep cut
Reds left runners on early and never cashed in — once you waste those chances against a starter who's rolling, it's over.
05
exit
Anyway, both these clubs are hovering right around .500 — should be a fun stretch watching who actually makes a push.
The recap
Washington took care of business at home, jumping on Cincinnati early and cruising to a 7-1 win in the getaway-day matinee. The Nats got a starter who got into his stuff and kept the Reds' heart of the order quiet all afternoon, holding them to a single run.
Once Washington built the lead, the bullpen slammed the door and never gave Cincinnati a sniff. Tidy, drama-free afternoon baseball on Peacock, and the Nats needed it to nudge back toward .500.
