Cincinnati RedsvsChicago White Sox
CIN 5/CHW 4
Things to say
The Reds beat the White Sox 5-4 in 10 innings at Rate Field.
01
opener
Reds took it 5-4 in extras. Free-runner ball in the tenth, so you knew somebody was gonna push a run across. Sox just couldn't answer in the bottom half.
02
key player
Give it to the Cincy bullpen. They came in with the game on the line and got into their stuff when it mattered. That's the win right there.
03
hot take
Honestly the Sox manager went to the pen too early again. You've got a starter cruising and you yank him. Drives me nuts.
04
deep cut
It's a getaway day too, so both teams are running on fumes. The extra-innings ghost runner completely flips how you play that tenth.
05
exit
Both these clubs are under .500 anyway. I'll see who takes the rubber game tomorrow before I say anything.
The recap
Reds and White Sox went the distance and then some at Rate Field, knotted up until Cincinnati found a run in the tenth to steal it 5-4. This one had the feel of a getaway-day grind, both bullpens trading zeros late while the heart of each order kept coming up empty in the clutch.
The Reds finally cracked it in extras and their pen slammed the door in the bottom half to lock down the road win. Nice little bounce-back for a Cincinnati club that's been scuffling under .500.
