Colorado RockiesvsWashington Nationals
COL 1/WSH 7
Things to say
The Nationals beat the Rockies 7-1 at Nationals Park.
01
opener
Nats handled the Rockies, 7-1. Never really in doubt after they put up a crooked number early. Colorado just couldn't string anything together.
02
key player
Whoever was on the bump for Washington got into his stuff — one run over the long haul and let the pen close it clean.
03
hot take
Say what you want about the Rockies, but a team that can't hit outside Coors is gonna keep laying eggs on the road like this.
04
deep cut
One run on the road tells you everything — the heart of the order went quiet and nobody left the yard all afternoon.
05
exit
Anyway, both these clubs are playing out the string — I'm more curious who's actually buying at the deadline next year.
The recap
Washington took care of business on a getaway day, handling the Rockies 7-1 behind a starter who got into his stuff early and cruised. Colorado never got the heart of the order going, scratching across a lone run while the offense stayed asleep against a Nats staff that kept the WHIP low all afternoon.
Washington's bats did the rest, stringing together enough traffic to blow it open and let the bullpen coast to the finish. Tidy win for a Washington club playing spoiler down the stretch.
