Kansas City RoyalsvsLos Angeles Angels
KC 7/LAA 6
Things to say
The Kansas City Royals edged the Los Angeles Angels 7-6 on the road at Angel Stadium.
01
opener
Royals took it 7-6 out in Anaheim. Back-and-forth all night, came down to the last couple innings. One of those where you don't relax till the final out.
02
key player
The heart of that KC order carried it. Kept the line moving and did the damage when it mattered, and honestly they were the difference.
03
hot take
Angels bullpen gave that one away. You're up late at home, you cannot let the road team hang seven on you. That's on the pen.
04
deep cut
Little thing nobody mentions, the Angels are 48-75 and still playing tight one-run games. They compete, they just can't close.
05
exit
Anyway, Royals are scrappy right now. Curious if they carry it into the next series or it's just a getaway-day fluke.
The recap
Royals grabbed a one-run nail-biter in Anaheim, 7-6, the kind of getaway-day game where nobody could slam the door until the very end. Both bullpens got shaky late and let a comfortable margin turn into a coin flip, but Kansas City did just enough to hold on.
The Angels made it interesting into the ninth, but they kept coming up an out short. Scrappy road win that keeps the Royals nipping at LA's heels in the standings.
