Kansas City RoyalsvsCleveland Guardians
KC 8/CLE 3
Things to say
The Kansas City Royals beat the Cleveland Guardians 8-3 on the road at Progressive Field.
01
opener
Royals went into Cleveland and put up eight. Guardians never really had it, dropped it 8-3. Kind of a getaway-day snoozer once KC got rolling.
02
key player
KC's top of the order did all the damage, kept turning the lineup over and the heart of the order cashed it in. That's how you hang eight.
03
hot take
Cleveland at .500 in late August tells you everything. That team's got no punch, and three runs against this staff isn't gonna cut it.
04
deep cut
Guardians are sitting dead even at 68-68 while the Royals keep chipping at a rough record. Weird night when the below-.500 club looks like the sharper team.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if Cleveland can bounce back tomorrow, they can't drop the series at home.
The recap
The Royals rolled into Progressive Field and hung a crooked number on Cleveland, cruising to an 8-3 win on a getaway day. Kansas City's bats did the heavy lifting, stacking runs and never really letting the Guardians hang around.
Cleveland couldn't get anything going against the Royals arms and never threatened the lead once it slipped away. At 62-75 it's a small win in a lost season, but you'll take an 8-run road day any time you can get it.
