Kansas City RoyalsvsNew York Mets
KC 16/NYM 12
Things to say
The Royals beat the Mets 16-12 at Citi Field.
01
opener
Man, what a slugfest. Royals put up sixteen on the Mets, sixteen. Nobody's pitching in that one showed up.
02
key player
Whoever the Mets ran out there got lit up early. When you give up double digits at home, that's on the whole staff, not one guy.
03
hot take
Both teams sitting at .500-ish and neither can find a bullpen. Twenty-eight runs? That's not baseball, that's batting practice.
04
deep cut
The Mets scored twelve and still lost by four. You put up a dozen at home and drop it, that stings way more than a shutout.
05
exit
Anyway, Mets better patch up that pen before the next series or it's gonna be a long homestand. We'll see.
The recap
This one turned into a track meet, with the Royals and Mets combining for 28 runs and nobody's bullpen able to stop the bleeding. Kansas City left the yard early and often, roughing up whatever the Mets ran out there and building enough cushion to survive Citi Field turning into a launching pad.
New York kept clawing back and made it a game late, but every time they got within striking distance the Royals answered right back. When you put up 16 on the road, you'll take it and run — final was 16-12 Kansas City on a getaway day where the heart of both orders got fat.
