New Orleans SaintsvsDallas Cowboys
NO 27/DAL 24
Things to say
The New Orleans Saints beat the Dallas Cowboys 24-27 on a late field goal at AT&T Stadium.
01
opener
Dallas had this thing in the bag, up 24-9, and just let it slip. Saints clawed all the way back to tie it and won it on a field goal at the gun. Cowboys folding at home, nothing new.
02
key player
Sam Howell was the only reason Dallas made it a game — 12 of 18, two touchdowns, ran in the two-point himself. Shame the defense couldn't hold a 15-point lead for him.
03
hot take
Everybody's gonna credit the Saints comeback, but this is on Dallas. You go conservative up two scores, you couldn't move the ball, and you hand a road team the door. That's a coaching loss.
04
deep cut
Barion Brown opened the scoring on a 7-yard rush and Jordan Hudson quietly went for 97 on four catches. Both of those guys were footnotes coming in — that's where this one turned.
05
exit
Anyway, Dallas better tighten it up before the schedule gets real. We'll see if it holds next week.
The recap
Dallas sat on a 24-9 lead late and let the whole thing slip through their fingers. Sam Howell caught fire in the second half, hit Jordan Hudson and Mitch Van Vooren for scores, and a two-point conversion knotted it at 24.
From there it came down to legs, and a 53-yard field goal with 1:55 left was the dagger that sent New Orleans home with a 27-24 win. Backups everywhere and points late — this one had preseason written all over it, but the comeback was the real story.
