San Jose EarthquakesvsPortland Timbers

SJ 3/POR 1

Apple TVProvidence Park
Things to say

San Jose beat Portland 3-1 at Providence Park.

01
opener
Quakes went into Providence Park and walked out with three. Timbers had nothing for them. San Jose's looking like a real team this year.
02
key player
Daniel in goal had six saves for San Jose — kept it from being a 1-1 grind and let the away side run away with it.
03
hot take
Portland's done. Four wins in fourteen and getting paddled at home? That's not a slump, that's the table telling you something.
04
deep cut
Kelsy had four shots and couldn't buy a goal. Bassett completed 80 passes and it still didn't matter — they were passing sideways while San Jose was scoring.
05
exit
Quakes are 10-2-3 now, top of the West conversation. Curious who they draw next.
The recap

San Jose rolled into Providence Park and walked out with a 3-1 win, and honestly Portland never looked like they had an answer. Quakes keeper Daniel was the story when it wasn't the scoreline — six saves to keep the Timbers from clawing back in.

Kevin Kelsy peppered the goal four times for Portland and got nothing to show for it, while San Jose just kept finding the net on the chances that mattered. That's San Jose to 10-2-3 and Portland sliding to 4-2-8, and the Quakes are quietly looking like the real deal out West.
