ESPN+Hancock Whitney Stadium
Things to say

South Alabama beat SE Louisiana 39-14 at home to open the season 1-0.

01
opener
South Alabama handled SE Louisiana at home, 39-14. Never really close after the first quarter. The Jaguars just wore them down.
02
key player
Bishop Davenport was efficient all night, 18-of-27 for 154 and a score, plus a rushing touchdown. Not flashy numbers, but he ran the offense clean.
03
hot take
Honestly the passing game was fine, but this was a smashmouth win. They just ran it down their throats in the second half.
04
deep cut
Kyle Lowe threw for 186 and two scores for SELA, but the two picks killed them. And they opened the game giving up a safety, so it was 12-nothing before they blinked.
05
exit
Jaguars look legit early. We'll see if it holds up once they hit real competition on the schedule.
The recap

South Alabama never trailed and steadily buried SE Louisiana 39-14, banking a safety and a Trae'von Dunbar touchdown before the Lions ever found the end zone. Kyle Lowe kept it interesting with a pair of touchdown throws to Lonnie Shinn, but he also coughed up two interceptions, and those giveaways let the Jaguars keep stacking points.

The turning point was really the whole first half — USA's defense bailed the offense out early and built a lead too big to chase. Rushing scores from Bishop Davenport and PJ Martin down the stretch turned it into a comfortable season-opening cover.
