St. Louis CITY SCvsVancouver Whitecaps
STL 3/VAN 1
Things to say
St. Louis CITY SC beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 on the road at BC Place.
01
opener
St. Louis went into Vancouver and took it 3-1. The Whitecaps have been rolling at home, so grabbing three goals up there is no joke. City just looked sharper on the road.
02
key player
Roman Bürki was the difference in goal for St. Louis. Two saves doesn't sound like much, but he came up big when Vancouver pushed, and the back line kept it from ever getting nervous.
03
hot take
Vancouver's home record is a mirage. Thirteen wins looks great until a real road team shows up and picks them apart like this.
04
deep cut
Lukas MacNaughton put up 17 defensive interventions for St. Louis. That's a guy erasing everything Vancouver tried to build. Brian White got four shots off and had nothing to show for it.
05
exit
Big result for St. Louis in the playoff race. Curious to see if they can keep it going against tougher West competition.
The recap
St. Louis went into Vancouver and walked out with a 3-1 win, which is a real statement against a Whitecaps side sitting near the top of the table.
Vancouver actually pushed the play, with Brian White firing off a team-high four shots, but Roman Burki kept things tidy in the St. Louis net and the visitors made their chances count.
Lukas MacNaughton was everywhere on defense with a whopping 17 interventions, snuffing out attack after attack. Take the road three-goal haul against a good team any day.
