The Citadel walked into Charlotte and grinded out a 43-41 triple-overtime thriller behind Gavin Garcia's smashmouth night, 137 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Charlotte's Cole Gonzales aired it out for 322 and three scores, but his two picks kept handing the door back open.
It came down to the wire in the third OT: The Citadel punched in a two-point conversion pass to Whit Hobgood, then stuffed Charlotte's answer to steal it. Gut-punch loss for the 49ers, who moved the ball all night and still walked off 0-1.
