Detroit TigersvsHouston Astros
DET 9/HOU 3
Things to say
Tigers beat the Astros 9-3 at Daikin Park.
01
opener
Tigers rolled into Houston and put up nine. Astros never really got into it. Detroit looked like the team that wanted it more.
02
key player
Whoever was at the top of the Tigers order was on base all night, the heart of the order kept driving him in.
03
hot take
Houston's bullpen is cooked, manager went to the pen way too early and it bit him again.
04
deep cut
Both teams are under .500 now, Astros at 33-41 is nowhere near where anyone had them in March.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if Detroit can stack another one tomorrow before they leave town.
The recap
Tigers rolled into Daikin Park and absolutely bullied Houston, 9-3, snapping a rough stretch with their bats finally waking up. Detroit's lineup got into Houston's stuff early and the heart of the order kept piling on — once it was 6-1 you could feel the Astros manager eyeing the pen way too early.
Houston never got the leverage arm they needed and the bullpen just hemorrhaged runs in the middle innings. Astros drop to 33-41 and you can hear the grumbling in Houston getting louder by the week.
